Creating a Billing Customer
Set up a customer's payment identity for invoicing, subscriptions, and trigger billing
Before You Begin
- A Zyntro account with admin access
- A Stripe or PayPal gateway configured
A billing customer connects a contact in your CRM to a payment method. Once created, you can send them invoices, enroll them in subscriptions, and set up trigger billing — all using the same payment identity. This guide walks through creating a billing customer from the Edge UI.
Steps
Navigate to Billing Customers
Go to Operations > Edge > Billing Customers and click New Customer.
Select a Contact
Use the contact search field to find the person or company you want to bill. Select them — their name and email populate automatically from your CRM.
Choose a Payment Gateway
Select Stripe or PayPal. This determines which payment processor handles all charges for this customer. You can change this later by updating the payment method.
Attach a Payment Method
For Stripe: a card entry form appears. Enter the card number, expiration, and CVC. Edge creates a Stripe customer and attaches the payment method.
For PayPal: a PayPal authorization flow launches. The customer (or you on their behalf) authorizes a vault token that allows future charges.
Configure Trigger Billing
Toggle Allow Trigger Billing to enable condition-driven charges for this customer.
If enabled, Require Initial Charge is recommended — it processes a small verification charge (default $15.00) to confirm the payment method works before any trigger can fire. You can adjust the initial charge amount.
Leave trigger billing off if you only plan to send invoices or use subscriptions.
Add Notes
Optionally add internal notes about this billing relationship. Notes are visible only to your team, not to the customer.
Save
Click Save. If an initial charge is required, Edge processes it immediately. On success, the billing customer status moves to `active` and is ready for billing.
If the initial charge fails (declined card, insufficient funds), the customer is saved with status `pending`. Update the payment method and retry.
Result
Your billing customer is active and ready for billing. You can now send them invoices, add them to subscription plans, or enroll them in trigger billing items.
