Pointing Your Domain
One A record, and the proxy setting that blocks most launches.
Your domain has to point at Zyntro before the site can serve it. That is one DNS record, made wherever your DNS is managed.
There is one setting that causes most failed launches, and it is not the record itself.
Before You Begin
- Access to wherever your domain's DNS is managed — usually your registrar
- The address shown on the Go Live screen, which is the one to point at
Steps
Find where your DNS is actually managed
This is not always where you bought the domain. If the name servers point elsewhere — commonly to Cloudflare, or to a host you used previously — that is where the records live and where the change has to be made.
The usual candidates are GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, Squarespace Domains and Route 53. Look for DNS, DNS Management or Name servers in the dashboard.
Set the A record
Create or edit the A record for your root domain so it points at the address shown on the Go Live screen. The screen has a copy button so you do not have to transcribe it.
Optionally add a CNAME for www pointing at your root domain, so both forms of your address work.
Turn proxying off
If your DNS is at Cloudflare, the record must be set to DNS only — the grey cloud, not the orange one.
A proxied record resolves to Cloudflare's address rather than yours. Our domain check looks for the A record pointing at us, does not find it, and the launch is blocked. No security certificate can be issued either.
This is the most common cause of a go-live that will not proceed, and nothing on the screen can tell you that proxying is the reason — which is why it is worth checking first rather than last.
Wait for it to spread
DNS changes take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours to reach everywhere. There is nothing to do but wait.
If the domain check says DNS is not pointing at us and you are confident the record is right, waiting is usually the answer. Check again after a while rather than changing the record repeatedly.
Result
Your domain resolves to Zyntro, and the Go Live screen's domain check can see it.
