Broadcast Statuses Explained

What each label means, and what the numbers on the campaign page add up.

A broadcast carries two layers of status: one for the campaign as a whole, shown as a badge on the broadcast list, and one for each contact in it, shown in the contact table on the campaign page. They answer different questions — is this campaign running? and what happened to this person?

Campaign statuses

Status What it means What you can do
Draft Created but never scheduled. No contacts are enrolled and nothing will send. Edit freely, or delete it.
Scheduled The audience is enrolled and the campaign is waiting for its start time. Cancel it. It can no longer be edited.
Generating An intelligent campaign is writing messages for its audience. Pause or cancel.
Sending Messages are being handed to delivery. Pause or cancel.
Paused You stopped it. Nothing more is written or sent until you resume. Messages already handed to delivery still go out. Resume or cancel.
Completed Every enrolled contact has reached a final state. The campaign marks this itself. Read the reporting. Nothing further runs.
Cancelled Stopped for good. Anything not yet sent will not be. Read the reporting. A cancelled campaign cannot be restarted.

Per-contact statuses

Status What it means
Queued Enrolled and waiting its turn. Nothing has been written or sent for this contact yet.
Generating Their message is being written right now. Intelligent campaigns only.
Awaiting review Their message is written and is being checked before it can send.
Pending The message is ready and queued for delivery. It has passed its review.
Sent Delivered to the contact. For a text this also covers carrier-confirmed delivery.
Failed Delivery was attempted and did not succeed — a bad address, a bounce, a carrier rejection.
Quarantined The message was written but failed its review, so it was held back and never sent. The campaign carries on with everyone else.
Skipped The message was never attempted — it was discarded from the queue before sending. This is not a delivery failure.

The counters on the campaign page

Total Contacts count optional

Everyone enrolled when the campaign was scheduled.

Sent count optional

Contacts whose message was delivered. This drives the percentage-complete bar on the broadcast list.

Pending count optional

Everything still in flight: queued, being written, awaiting review, and ready-to-send. One number for 'not finished yet'.

Issues count optional

Failed plus quarantined — messages that will not reach the contact and are worth looking at.

Unique Opens count optional

How many contacts opened the email at least once, counted per person rather than per open. Email only; a text has nothing to open.

Unique Clicks count optional

How many contacts clicked at least one link, counted per person.

Replies count optional

Replies received against this campaign. Email replies arrive in the inbox; a text reply arrives from the contact's number.

Engagement Rate percentage optional

Engaged contacts as a share of those reached.

Warning: Sent, Pending and Issues do not always add up to Total Contacts. A skipped contact belongs to none of the three — it was neither delivered, nor in flight, nor a failure.
