Send a Simple SMS Broadcast

One template, your chosen audience, in four steps.

A simple SMS broadcast sends one template to everyone in the audience. Smart tags fill in each contact's own details, so the text reads personally, but you write it once.

This is the right choice when the same message genuinely suits everyone — a reminder, an announcement, a closing date. When each contact needs something written for them, use Intelligent SMS Outreach from the same menu instead.

Before You Begin

Steps

Step 1: Details

From Communications > SMS > Broadcasts, open New SMS Broadcast and choose Simple SMS Broadcast.

Give the broadcast a name you will recognise later — Flash Sale Notification, Appointment Reminder — and an optional description noting what it is for. Neither is sent to anyone; they are how you find the campaign again.

Step 2: Template

Choose the SMS template this broadcast sends. The wizard lists the templates that already exist, so if you need a new one, create it first and come back.

Templates can carry smart tags that resolve per contact. Check the template before you send: a tag that does not resolve for a contact leaves a gap in their message, and a text has no room to absorb one.

Length is worth checking here too. A text is delivered and billed in segments, so a template that runs just past a segment boundary costs more to send to everyone.

Step 3: Audience

Build the audience with From a List or Build Filter.

A filter is a set of field, operator and value conditions, and every condition must match for a contact to be included. The wizard shows how many contacts match, and you can open the preview to see exactly who.

The count is who will actually be texted, not who matched. Contacts who have opted out of texts, or who have no mobile number, appear in the preview locked — struck through, with the reason beside them — and are left out of the audience. A note above the table totals them. You can also deselect anyone you do not want included.

If every matching contact is excluded, the preview still opens. That is when you most need to see why.

Step 4: Review & Schedule

Check the summary, then decide when to send — immediately, or at a date and time you pick.

Create & Schedule opens a confirmation panel before anything is created. It shows how many contacts will receive the text and the estimated cost of sending it. A simple broadcast is not charged for writing; the estimate is for delivery, at the carrier's rate. Confirm there to create and schedule the campaign, or cancel and nothing is created.

Result

The broadcast is scheduled, and the campaign page shows each contact's delivery status, any replies, and the overall progress. From the broadcast list you can pause a running campaign, resume it, or cancel it.

Troubleshooting

The wizard only lists templates that already exist. Create an SMS template first, then start the broadcast again.

Only contacts who can be texted are counted. Anyone who has opted out of texts, or who has no mobile number on file, is excluded and shown locked in the preview with the reason.

A smart tag that has no value for that contact resolves to nothing. Check which tags your template uses and whether every contact in the audience has those fields filled in.
