Blog Authors

A byline, a face and a biography, shared across every site on the brand.

An author is who a post is by. The Authors tab is a short list with a short form, and it is worth filling in properly.

Attribution does real work. A post with a named author, a photograph and a credible biography is read differently from the same post with no byline — particularly where the subject is one of judgement rather than fact.

Steps

Add an author

Add New Author takes a name, an email, a biography and an avatar image address.

The biography is the field that matters. Say why this person is worth reading on this subject, in a sentence or two — their role and relevant experience, not a personality sketch.

Add their social profiles

LinkedIn, Twitter / X, Facebook and Instagram can each be linked.

Add the ones that are genuinely active and relevant to the writing. A dormant profile linked from a byline is a dead end.

Know that authors are brand-level

Authors belong to the brand rather than to one site. Add somebody once and they are available on every site you build on that brand.

This is also why removing an author is worth a moment's thought — they may be attributed on a site other than the one you are looking at.

Use a real photograph

The avatar takes an image address. A real photograph of a real person does the job; a logo or an illustration in an author slot undermines the attribution it is meant to support.

If you do not have a photograph, a byline with a good biography and no picture still works. A placeholder image does not.

Result

Authors available for attribution across every site on this brand.
