Blog Categories

Recommended from your brand, with the reasoning behind them.

Categories organise your writing and decide what your category pages list. Getting them roughly right early is worth more than getting them perfect later, because posts accumulate against them.

Zyntro proposes a set based on your brand and what you do, with the reasoning attached.

Steps

Build your initial categories

A site with no categories yet says so, and offers to build them.

What comes back is a recommended set with a Blog Strategy behind it: the reasoning, the post types that suit each category, and a minimum post frequency worth sustaining.

Read the strategy. The frequency in particular is a useful reality check — a category you will not write for twice a year is a category that will look abandoned.

Edit them to match what you will actually write

The recommendations are a starting point. Edit the names, add categories of your own, and remove any you do not need.

Fewer categories, each with several posts, beats more categories each with one. An empty category page is a worse experience than no category page.

Save

Save Categories stores them. New content is assigned to them automatically from then on.

Removing a category with posts in it

A category still holding posts cannot be removed, and you are told how many are assigned to it.

The order is: reassign those posts to another category and republish them, then come back and remove the now-empty category. This stops a post from quietly losing its place in your site's structure.

This is a guard, not an obstacle. A removed category with posts still pointing at it would leave those posts reachable but unlisted.

Result

A category set that reflects what you will write, with new content assigned to it automatically.
