Use Your Own Fonts
Bring a licensed typeface in through your drive and use it like any library font.
The font picker searches a large public library, which covers most brands. If yours uses a licensed typeface, you can bring the files in yourself and use them exactly as you would any other font.
This is a two-part job: the files go into your drive, then you register them as fonts so the type system knows what they are called.
Before You Begin
-
The font files in
.woff2or.woffformat — these are the web formats; a desktop.otfor.ttfneeds converting first - A licence that permits use on a website. Most desktop font licences do not
- One file per weight you intend to use
Steps
Upload the font files to your drive
Go to Library > Files & Folders and upload the .woff2 or .woff files.
Upload each weight as its own file. A brand that uses a regular and a bold is two files, and they are registered as two separate fonts.
Register each file as a font
Open Manage Custom Fonts, reachable from the typography settings. It lists the font files it can see in your drive and lets you register them.
Give each one a name you will recognise in the picker, and the family name the font should be published under. The family name is what appears in your site's styling, so keep it simple and close to the real name of the typeface.
Use it in a font role
Registered fonts appear alongside the library fonts wherever type is chosen — in the wizard's typography step and in Site Settings > Typography.
Assign it to the roles it belongs to, exactly as you would a library font.
Check a page
Open any page in the editor and look at the preview. If the text is still rendering in a fallback face, the usual causes are a file that is not a web format despite its extension, or a family name that does not match what the font file declares internally.
Warning: Check the licence before uploading. Webfont use is licensed separately from desktop use by most foundries, and a font file served from your website is being distributed to every visitor.
Result
Your typeface is registered against the brand and selectable in every font role. Custom fonts are a brand-level asset, so once registered they are available to every site on that brand.
