Setting a Homepage and Cloning Pages
Choosing the page served at your root address, and copying one you have already got right.
Each row in Pages Created carries its own buttons. Two of them are worth knowing properly, because they change how you approach building a site.
Steps
Set a page as the homepage
The small house button makes that page your homepage — the one served when somebody types your domain with nothing after it.
Exactly one page can be the homepage, so setting a new one unsets the old one. You are asked to confirm, and the confirmation says so.
The button does not appear on the current homepage (there is nothing to do) or on template pages (a page serving many addresses cannot be your root).
Clone a page
The copy button duplicates the page with all of its blocks, as a draft, and takes you straight into the editor on the copy.
The button only appears on pages that have blocks — there is no point cloning an empty page.
This is the cheapest way to make a page that is a variation on one you have already got right. You are not paying to generate a layout you already have; you are copying it and editing the parts that differ.
Find a page quickly
The search box filters the tab you are on, matching title, address, status and page type. On a site with forty pages this is faster than reading the list.
It filters only the tab you are looking at. Switching tabs keeps your search and applies it to the new tab, which is occasionally surprising — if a tab looks empty, check whether you still have a search active.
Result
Your root address serves the page you intended, and you have a working copy to build a variant from.
