Organise, Move and Delete Files

Selecting in bulk, moving between folders, and what delete really means here.

Most tidying here is bulk work: a folder that has become a dumping ground, a batch of files that belong somewhere else. The selection gestures are the standard ones, and the screen states them in the bar rather than expecting you to know.

Steps

Find the files

Search matches both the file name and its tags. It searches the folder you are in, so search from All Files to look everywhere, or from inside a folder to look only there.

Switch between grid and list with the toggle beside the search box. Files are shown 50 at a time, with Previous and Next below.

Select what you need

  • Click a file to select it on its own and open the detail panel.
  • Shift-click another to take everything between the two.
  • Cmd-click (Mac) or Ctrl-click (Windows) to add or remove one file from the selection.

A bar appears as soon as anything is selected, showing the count and repeating the gestures. Select all on this page takes the visible 50; Clear drops the selection.

The selection covers what is on screen. Changing folder or page clears it, so a bulk action can never touch a file you have scrolled past and not seen.

Move them

Press Move and choose the destination folder. The picker shows the whole tree, so you can file something several levels down in one go.

Moving changes only which folder a file belongs to. The file itself is untouched — the same URL, the same size, the same tags — so a link you have already shared keeps working after a move.

Delete them

Press Delete and confirm. Deletion is permanent: there is no recycle bin and no undo, and the file is removed from storage as well as from the list.

Deletes run through the same bottom-right panel as uploads, one at a time. A delete that is still queued can be cancelled; once it has started it cannot, because a sent delete cannot be recalled.

If a file is referenced anywhere — a web page, a sent email, a curated resource — deleting it breaks that reference. Check before clearing out anything with a URL.

Work on a single file in the panel

Selecting one file opens the detail panel on the right. It shows the folder it lives in as a breadcrumb — useful when you have found the file through search and have no idea where it is — plus a preview, the name, the type, the size, which storage service it is on, and the file URL with a copy button.

From there you can Download, Move or Delete that one file. The single delete goes through the same confirmation as a bulk one.

Result

Your files are where they should be. Folder counts in the sidebar update as you go, rolling up through the tree without a page reload.

Troubleshooting

Changing folder or page clears it, by design — a bulk delete should never be able to act on files you cannot see. Select again on the page you are on.

Search covers the folder you are in. Switch to All Files and search again. It matches names and tags, so an untagged file with a meaningless name is findable only by that name.

Moving a file does not change its URL, so a broken link means the file was deleted rather than moved. Deletion cannot be undone — the file will need re-uploading.

Folders that Zyntro created and relies on are protected. You can empty one, but not remove it.
