Design a Welcome Screen

The screen someone sees before the first question

A welcome screen is a full-screen introduction with a headline, a short piece of text and a button that starts the form. It gives you space to say what the form is for and how long it will take before anyone commits to answering.

It is optional, and it is not always the right choice. A welcome screen adds a click. On a form you send people to deliberately, that click is worth it. On a short form embedded in a web page, it usually costs you completions.

Tip: A good rule: if someone arrived specifically to fill in this form, give them a welcome screen. If they came across it while reading something else, do not.

Steps

Open the welcome screen designer

During the first build of a form, choose Give me a Welcome Screen when asked.

For an existing form, go to Sales → CRM → Forms, open the row menu and choose Edit Welcome Screen.

Open the welcome screen designer

Choose a background

You have two options.

A background image — click View Available Media to open your media library and pick one, or add a new image there.

A gradient — set two colours, choose the gradient type, and use the degrees slider to set its direction.

Keep contrast in mind. A busy photograph makes headline text hard to read, and this screen has one job: being read.

Write the headline and text

The headline defaults to Let's Get Started. Replace it with something that says what the form is for — Tell us about your project, Book your consultation.

Set the headline size, then set the headline and body text colours to sit against your background.

Keep the supporting text to a sentence or two. Say what the form covers and roughly how long it takes. People decide whether to start based on this.

Style the button

Set the button's background and text colours, its hover colours, its corner rounding and its padding.

The button text defaults to Let's Go!. Something plainer usually performs better — Start, or Begin the form.

Check the hover colours as well as the resting ones. A button that vanishes on hover reads as broken.

Set the alignment

Choose where the content sits horizontally and vertically. Centred works for most designs. Off-centre placement is useful when your background image has a subject you do not want to cover.

Add your logo

Pick a logo from your brand's logos, set its alignment and adjust its height with the slider.

If you would rather not show one, use the Don't apply my logo control.

Check the preview and save

The preview beside the controls shows the screen as visitors will see it. When you are happy, save.

On a form you are building for the first time, saving takes you into the field builder. On an existing form, your changes are stored against the form.

Result

Your form now opens with the welcome screen, and the fields appear after someone clicks through.

When you use Preview Form from inside the builder, the preview skips the welcome screen so you can check the fields directly. To see the welcome screen as a visitor does, open the form's own public address.
