Editing Your Navigation
Content edits are free and immediate. Design changes go through a prompt.
Your header and footer each have their own tab, and each works the same way: a live preview, direct editing of the navigation, and the option to describe a design change.
The distinction between those last two matters. Editing navigation content is free and immediate. Changing how the header looks or is structured is a generated change.
Steps
Edit navigation items directly
The navigation editor covers labels, links, descriptions, and the items inside dropdowns, and you can add and remove child items.
In the footer tab this extends to column titles and their links, social links, legal links, the copyright and disclaimer lines, and the call to action's headline, description, button label and button link.
All of this is direct editing. Nothing is generated and nothing is charged.
Check the preview at every size
Each tab previews the real header or footer, with desktop, tablet and mobile controls.
Use all three before saving. Navigation is where a change that looks fine on a desktop becomes a problem on a phone — one extra menu item can be the one that breaks the row.
Ask for design changes in prose
For structure and appearance — fewer footer columns, the call to action moved, the menu grouped differently — describe what you want.
Say what should be true when it is done: Group the three product pages under one menu item called Products. This is a charged action and the cost is shown first.
Save, and know it is immediately live
There is no publish step. Saving the header or footer changes every page on the site at once, including published ones.
That is why checking the preview first matters more here than almost anywhere else in Webby — there is no draft state between you and the live site.
Check the knock-on effects
Adding a navigation item that points at a page you have not built puts that page on Pages Recommended, ready to generate.
Removing an item does not delete the page it pointed at. If the page should go too, delete it separately — and run the Link Map afterwards to catch anything else that was linking to it.
Result
Navigation updated and live everywhere, with any newly implied pages listed for you.
