Edit, Pause or Cancel a Broadcast

Changing your mind, before and after you schedule.

Scheduling a broadcast is the point of no return for its setup, not for the campaign itself. Before that moment you can change anything. After it, the audience and the content are fixed, but you can still stop the campaign, restart it, or end it for good.

Before You Begin

  • A broadcast in your account. Which controls are available depends on the status it is in

Steps

Edit a draft

A campaign that has never been scheduled is a Draft, and Edit on the broadcast list opens it for changes — its name, objective, template, audience, schedule, mandates, everything.

Once a campaign has been scheduled, editing is closed. The audience was enrolled at that moment and messages may already have been written against the old settings, so changing it underneath would leave a campaign that was half one thing and half another. To change the content, cancel the campaign and create a new one.

Pressing Edit on a campaign that is already running tells you only draft broadcasts can be edited. That is the guard working, not a fault.

Pause a running campaign

Pause on the broadcast list stops a campaign that is generating or sending. Nothing further is written and nothing further is handed to delivery.

Messages that were already handed to delivery still go out — at that point they are in the sending queue and the campaign no longer controls them. So pausing stops the campaign, not the last few messages.

Resume it

Resume picks the campaign up where it stopped. Contacts that were already dealt with are not revisited, and nobody is written to or charged twice.

The send window and send days still apply, so a campaign resumed outside its window waits until the window opens again.

Cancel it

Cancel ends a campaign for good. Anything not yet sent will not be sent, and a cancelled campaign cannot be restarted — create a new one instead.

What has already gone out stays gone out. Sent messages cannot be recalled on either channel, and the campaign's reporting remains available so you can see what it did reach.

Delete it

Delete removes the campaign and its record. Use it for drafts and mistakes. For a campaign that has actually sent something, cancelling is usually what you want — it stops the campaign while keeping the reporting on what was delivered.

Result

The campaign is in the state you want, and you know what happened to the messages that were already moving when you changed it.

Troubleshooting

Those had already been handed to the delivery queue. Pausing stops the campaign from preparing and queueing more; it cannot reach into a send that is already underway.

Scheduling enrols the audience, which is what editing would invalidate. Cancel it and create a new campaign — if nothing has sent yet, nothing is lost.

Check the send window, the send days and the timezone on the campaign page. A resumed campaign still obeys them, so one resumed outside its window waits for the window to open.
