The Video Player and How It Looks

Open any video from the library using the gear icon. Appearance Settings controls how the player looks wherever the video appears — on its public page, in an embed, and in the preview.

The settings are per video rather than per brand, so a video that will live on a dark page can be set up differently from one on a light page.

Steps

Check the title

The title at the top of Appearance Settings is the one shown above the player on the public page and suggested when you publish to YouTube. Editing it here changes it everywhere.

This is worth a second look if the video was added with a working title.

Set the three player colours

Background is the surface the player sits on, and on the public page it becomes the colour of the whole page. Secondary is used for the page heading. Accent is used for links and highlights.

Set these to your brand colours. The default is a black background with white text, which is a reasonable place to start but is nobody's brand.

Choose the thumbnail frame

The Thumbnail Time slider picks the exact second of the video used as its still image. Drag it and the preview updates.

This is the setting most worth your attention. The thumbnail is what someone sees before deciding whether to watch, and the first frame of a video is very often a dark fade or a half-formed slide. Find a second where a face is visible or the subject is clearly on screen.

Second zero is almost never the right choice. Nearly every video opens on something unhelpful.

Check the preview

The Video Preview panel shows the player exactly as a viewer will see it, with your colours and thumbnail applied. Play it through once.

This is also where you catch a subtitle problem, since the preview carries the real subtitle track.

Copy the embed code, if you need it

Below the preview, Embed Code gives you a block of HTML that places this video in any page outside Zyntro, carrying your colours and thumbnail with it. Copy puts it on your clipboard.

For pages built in Zyntro you do not need this — you pick the video directly when building the page.

Save

Changes to the title, colours, thumbnail, categories and the private setting are saved together from this page.

Result

The video plays in your colours, opens on a frame that represents it, and can be dropped into any external page with a copied snippet.

Info: On the public page the background colour is applied to the entire page, not just behind the player. A background chosen to sit behind a small embed can look surprising at full-page size, so check the public page after changing it.

Tip: If a video will appear in several places, set the colours for the public page — that is the version you will send people. An embed on your own site inherits whatever the surrounding page does visually anyway.
