How Registration Works
One sign-up, several things recorded.
What It Is
Registration is the public page where someone gives you their details in exchange for a seat. It is also the point at which a visitor becomes a contact you can follow up with.
Every webinar has one, whatever its type. What differs is what the page offers: a date for a live session, immediate access for an evergreen one, or a choice of start times for Just-in-Time.
Why It Matters
A sign-up is worth more than an email address here.
Registration matches the person against your existing contacts by email, so a customer who registers stays one contact rather than becoming a duplicate. It also connects their anonymous browsing to their name: if they had been reading your site before signing up, that history is attached to the contact from this point on.
And it raises a signal for Segmentation Intelligence, so the sign-up is something SI knows about when it next decides how to engage them.
How It Works
When the form is submitted:
- The email is checked against your contacts. An existing contact is reused; a new one is created, along with their company where you collected it.
- An attendance record is created, holding their own private watch link. Nobody shares a link — each registrant gets their own, which is how watch time is attributed to the right person.
- A signal is raised for SI.
- Their earlier browsing is linked to the contact.
- Your post-registration actions run — tags, lists, the confirmation email or sequence, the text message, the keep-warm emails.
If the same person registers twice they are recognised rather than duplicated.
Examples
A stranger registers for a live webinar
A new contact is created, they are tagged and added to whichever list you chose, and they receive a confirmation with a link to the waiting room for the day.
An existing customer registers
No new contact. The attendance is added to the contact you already have, so the webinar becomes part of their history rather than a separate record.
Someone registers for an evergreen webinar
Their confirmation links straight to the video, because there is nothing to wait for.
